Often in the modding scene transformation is the name of the game - modern Middle Eastern style conflicts being one of the more popular for obvious reasons - but the game design team at Toronto's George Brown College look to break this trend with their release of
City 7: Toronto Conflict - a mod for
Half Life 2.
So why is this different? Rather than take the HL2 mod framework to depict an entirely different story or setting, these guys have opted to extend the HL2 story, all the way to Toronto - or 'City 7' as it is known in the mod. As the story goes, Combine rule has reached the proud nation of Canada, and due to a teleporting accident, Mr Freeman finds himself smack bang in the middle of the carnage of war torn City 7.
The developers claim gamers will experience around 2 to 3 hours of gameplay in some well known areas and landmarks such as Dundas square, the Eaton Center, Mel Lastman square, St. Michael's Hospital and the TTC system, which all admittedly don't mean much to me and my Aussie ignorance, but I'm sure more Toronto savvy gamers will get at least get a kick out of it if not more, and the interesting twist to the storyline sounds like a must-try for HL2 fans in general - I mean why not? It's free after all. You can
